Bury North MP James Frith has pressed the Government to commit funding to flood defence schemes in Bury following the devastating Boxing Day floods of 2015.
James questioned the Government in Parliament last week following a meeting with the Minister involving a delegation from Bury back in March to discuss the issue. Bury was overlooked in the first round of funding but in his response to James’s question, the Minister said James was a “clear champion” for Bury and assured him that the bid was under “serious consideration”, promising that announcements would be made by summer.
“I welcome the Minister’s commitment to make an announcement by summer but frankly this has been going on for too long. Every day that the Government delays the decision is a day that communities in Bury are at risk of flooding. I hope the Government will step up the pace and that Bury’s bid will be successful.”
